West End - West Bay in Roatan Honduras

Perhaps the most famous area of Roatan, and without question the one with more establishments catering to the tourist, West End and West Bay offer idyllic beaches in a very tropical setting. There are many small hotels and restaurants, featuring from extremely budget to the best and amongst the most expensive in the Island. West End offers a variety of activities, ranging from just relaxing on the beach, taking a boat ride to West Bay, a sail along the coast, great scuba diving, with a variety of schools appropriately certified, sea kayaking, horse back riding, etc. If you are just arriving to the Island, you can easily get to West End via public transportation. There are buses, running regularly from Monday through Saturday depart in front of Municipal Market in downtown Coxen Hole. The trip will take about 20 minutes and will cost you 20 Lps. per person. Service begins at 6:00 a.m. and runs continuously until 6:30 p.m. Service is very limited on Sundays.

There is no bank at West End, therefore, it is a good idea to do all your banking at Coxen Hole or French Harbour before setting out to West End. However there are now two ATM machines at West End, one at the Coconut Tree Hotel and the other at the Dolphin Resort Hotel, both at the entrance to West End. Another ATM machine is located at the Mayan Princess Beach Resort in West Bay Beach. These ATM's, allow for cash withdrawals from your credit card.

If you require having your laundry washed, Bamboo Hut offers the service with wash and dry included! There is a Catholic mass held every Saturday evening at Bamboo Hut. If interested, check with them early Saturday to reconfirm.

Because of their location and services offered, the Coconut Tree Hotel is a great place to start your discovery of the area. They have good cabins in both, West End and West Bay, they have one of the only two convennience stores in the area, one of the best restaurants and a full service dive shop. Check them out, you will find that their friendly service and good rates are irresistible.

The Mayan Princess Hotel, located in West Bay offers some of the best rooms on the island, which combined with the best beach in Central America makes it the place to stay if comfort and luxury is your cup of tea.
