Great new addition to Copan’s eating options!!!

Cafe San RafaelDuring my recent Christmas escape to Copan Ruinas, I stumbled across a refreshing new alternative: fresh home cheese made right here, in Copan Ruinas. Cafe San Rafael, a pleasant cafe and coffee store located almost across Carnitas Nia Lola, a couple of blocks from Central Park offers outstanding, gourmet coffee grown in the mountains around Copan Ruinas. Here you can find freshly ground coffee in the darker, French roast or the lighter American roast versions, you can even have a mixed roast if you prefer! Freshly brewed coffee is also available here in the home of the Guerra Family that has been set up to allow visitors into their porch.

The pleasant surprise is that Carlos Guerra, a  graduate of the Escuela Agricola Panamericana, also known as El Zamorano, has started up his own business and is offering a variety of cheeses that provide for a pleasant snack. Carlos obtained his major in food preparation, and worked in the USA in a cheese processing plant before deciding to come back to Honduras and start his own business. His cheeses include a Mozzarella, a Camambert style cheese, as well as several cream cheeses that are ideal to use as a spread on your crackers. Dehidrated tomato with jalapeno peppers and loroco, a local vegetable are some of flavors in the cheese spreads. If you enjoy a good cheese, make sure you check Carlos out. He can also provide a nice selection of wines to accompany the cheese! Cheers!!!
